A Quiet Retreat in Northern Arizona

Williams, Arizona

Update: Sadly, The Mountain Ranch Resort has closed indefinitely.

I headed to Northern Arizona to visit the Grand Canyon and was allured by the small town of Williams for it’s close proximity to the park, the picturesque beauty that surrounds it and the nearby attractions. Staying a few miles outside the city at the Mountain Ranch Resort turned out to be an ideal place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Located  less than an hours drive from the Canyon it was also a convenient choice as most hotels inside the park are booked to capacity many months in advance.

The Rooms

Hotel Room
Although the resort was built decades ago the rooms have been recently remodeled and upgraded. My room had a comfy king sized bed, microwave & fridge, a large flat screen TV, table to work at, and even a Keurig coffee maker. The water in the shower was also instantly hot without any delay; after traveling through Central America I value hot water a lot now!

Rabbit

The resort covers 35 acres right next to the Kaibab National Forest. The grounds are green and large beautiful trees surround the back of the property. There’s a pool & hot tub as well as tennis and basketball courts. And if you’re up early or around in the evening rabbits are seen munching away on the lush landscaping. There’s horseback riding and fitness classes on site. You could find yourself entertained for a weekend stay without ever leaving the resort.

Fine Dining

While being secluded from the city sounds great you usually sacrifice having a lot of choices for dining nearby. Thankfully the city of Williams is a 5 minute drive away with a variety of restaurant options. However, you won’t really need to leave the resort for any meals as they have a full menu that emphasizes healthy, organic and tasty options made fresh daily. I loved the breakfast and dinner choices so much I ended up eating here every night.

After escaping the extreme summer heat of Phoenix, I took full advantage of the great outdoor temperatures here – drinking wine and watching the sunset was definitely the highlight of my stay. My sweet tooth was even delighted with the freshly made dessert!
