Toronto is the most populated city in Canada and home to many beautiful attractions within the city limits that could easily keep a tourist busy for their entire trip. However, many of us who generally dislike the hustle and bustle of large cities easily grow tired of those surrounds; if you’re one of those people there are plenty of escapes nearby. In this post we’ll take a look at 3 awesome destinations that are all under two hours drive time from Toronto (traffic permitting of course).
Niagara Falls
Distance from Toronto: 121 km / 75 miles
Shaping the border between Canada and the United States, Niagara Falls is one of the most famous landmarks in the world. With an estimated 28 million visitors per year it’s also one of the most visited. It’s truly a natural wonder and obligatory must see for many tourists. One of its 3 waterfalls holds the record for the most powerful in all of North America. Don’t worry about waking up early for this one, as the falls are brightly lit up and on display in the evening, making it a great time to visit later in the day. Visit the official website to make plans and get up-to-date news.
The Blue Mountains
Distance from Toronto: 133 km / 83 miles
If Niagara Falls isn’t for you, check out the Blue Mountains – not only are they incredibly beautiful for any outdoors craving you have there’s a huge variety of outdoor activities for everyone. During the months that snow is on the ground it’s time to snap on your skis or snowboard and head to the Blue Mountain Ski Resort to test your abilities and ride the slopes. When it’s not too chilly there is excellent golfing to be had, and if you’re the adventurous type you might check out the caves.
Stratford
Distance from Toronto: 150 km / 93 miles
Known as Canada’s Premier Arts Town Stratford is the perfect spot if you prefer to explore a small town with tons of character. Filled with charming architecture, excellent theatre, parks and farmers markets there’s plenty to see and do. If you visit between April and October you’re in for a treat – the town’s claim to fame is the annual Stratford Festival, a show of Shakespearean plays that’s brought international acclaim.
Taking The Trans Siberian is an outstanding way of enjoying the landscapes in a luxury manner. I enjoyed a lot during my trip.
These all sound great! I hope i can go there some time soon.
